As students settle into a new semester, many find themselves stuck in a work slump. Exploring new places to study — aside from the usual spots in Bender Library or residence hall — can help get out of that slump.
Coffee shops can be an oasis for socialization, while also giving students motivation to study by providing them with comfortable seating and delicious treats. To inspire students to get off campus, The Eagle has compiled a list of coffee shops in Northwest D.C.
Located across the street from the Spring Valley Building is Bluestone Lane, an upscale coffee shop with breakfast and lunch items. The ‘BL Burrito’ is especially delicious, and has sheep’s milk feta cheese to give it a tangy flavor. With its bright inviting atmosphere and friendly staff, Bluestone Lane is perfect for grabbing lunch with friends. The menu features items such as the ‘Green Goddess Bowl’ and ‘Spiced Chicken Wrap,’ as well as a variety of smoothies. They also have some unique coffee options such as ‘Coconut Water Cold Brew’ and an ‘Iced Beet Latte.’
An option with locations in both Dupont Circle and Georgetown, Foxtrot is cozy and perfect for studying. The Georgetown location has comfortable couches that are perfect for a relaxing coffee date with friends. Included on the menu are grab and go options and a seasonal ‘Stroopwafel Latte.’ They also have an app where students can sign up to be a member and receive benefits such as early access to exclusive products and a monthly drink on the house. Additionally, fans of autumn-themed beverages will be excited to learn that Foxtrot’s ‘Pumpkin Pie Latte’ has returned for the season.
While Blue Bottle Coffee has a few shops in the District, the Georgetown location is the most fun, surrounded by a variety of stores and restaurants in the area. Next to the canal, Blue Bottle Coffee is always busy and is a great place to take a break in the middle of a Georgetown shopping spree. The ‘New Orleans-Style Iced Coffee’ is especially good and their lattes are a popular treat.
Emissary’s P Street NW location in Dupont Circle has a social atmosphere and an expansive menu including a yogurt parfait with locally made granola. By day, Emissary is a great casual breakfast spot, but they also host private events such as coffee and wine tastings. Emissary offers house made syrups and chai, which makes it stand out from other options.
Located in Friendship Heights, Coffee Nature’s menu features sandwiches, wraps and quesadillas. In addition to staple coffee shop menu items, they also have smoothies and teas such as the ‘Tropical Green Iced Tea.’ The menu also includes seasonal syrup flavors such as pumpkin spice that can be added to any beverage to spruce it up.
The final selection on this list is the Capital One Café in Georgetown. While its name may suggest exclusive entrance to those who bank with Capital One, the café welcomes everyone. They source their coffee from Verve Coffee Roasters and offer classic drinks such as lattes and cappuccinos. The cafe has recently introduced breakfast and lunch options, including sandwiches and baked goods. For those looking for a place to be productive, Capital One Café offers comfortable study nooks and work spaces and half-off beverage discounts for those using a Capital One card.
