A visiting New York City resident was assaulted early Tuesday morning with a poolstick at Quigley's New Mexico after getting into an argument with another customer.
According to police reports, the victim was 23-year-old Sekou Biddle, a sixth-grade teacher on summer vacation visiting his family in D.C. The assault occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on August 30.
The suspect, described as a 5-foot-9-inch, 171 pound white male between the ages of 24 and 30, had a verbal confrontation with Biddle, then proceeded to strike him in the face with a cue stick, breaking his nose and cheekbones. A witness said Biddle was trying to end the argument when he was assaulted.
The police report the suspect had dark brown hair, was wearing white shorts and a green shirt, and was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fight.
Biddle was transported to Georgetown University Hospital early that morning and was treated for his injuries. Police filed the incident report at the hospital after responding to a radio call.
"It was the end of the night, and there were lots of people here. It looked like he (Biddle) just got a cut on his nose," Quigley's night manager Jeff Maguire said.
He said the confrontation started as simple horseplay and developed into a violent incident.
"They were fooling around down in the pool table room, and it just turned (into a fight)," Maguire said. "It lasted about three seconds."
According to Maguire, this was the first incident of its kind ever at Quigley's New Mexico. However, two fights occurred there last September, one of which involved the hospitalization of two people. In that incident, a D.C. police officer got into an argument with a former AU student, and after a brief confrontation, injured the former student enough to cause him to have seizures.
According to his mother, Biddle is in good condition at Georgetown hospital. The suspect is still at large.
