Metro announced in a press release Wednesday that service at some stations on the Red Line will be closed on Saturday Feb. 3 and Sunday Feb. 4, impacting the Red, Yellow and Green lines.
The Cleveland Park and Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan stations will be closed “to install radio and fiber-optic cables to support future technology improvements,” with service running in two segments: from Shady Grove to Van Ness-UDC and from Dupont Circle to Glenmont.
For metrorail users traveling downtown from the Tenleytown-AU station, WMATA will provide a free shuttle bus traveling between Van Ness and Dupont Circle.
Metro buses will operate as normal, including the L2 which operates along Connecticut Avenue NW between Chevy Chase Circle and Farragut West.
The Green and Yellow lines will also be interrupted this weekend. Trains will single track between Mount Vernon Square and L’Enfant Plaza “to replace platform edge lighting, work on the radio system, and other maintenance.” The Blue, Orange and Silver lines will operate with normal service.
WMATA is currently facing a $750 million deficit in its Fiscal Year 2025 budget. Without additional funding, WMATA said that it would eliminate service on 67 of 135 Metrobus routes and reduce service on 41 of the remaining routes as early as late winter or early spring. Additionally, 10 low-ridership Metrorail stations would close and service on the Metro would end at 10 p.m. every night.
